Notes of a training camp - Day 5

Today we started with jo and cut several yokomens after warming up a bit. Today's fun exercise in the weapons training was that one of us had to roll the jo towards the other while catching another jo thrown by our partner. I practiced this with Karesz and we were very effective in this highly demanding task, especially when there was a direction change after some claps :).
This time it was Vass sensei's turn to hold a funny, game-based warm up session (according to him it would be funny and game-like to him and warm up to us, which almost made me laugh loudly). Most of the warm up was done in pairs. We needed to puch each other, step on each other's toes, pull each other on the floor without using our legs and free hand, but we obviously needed to pay attention to these games' warm up sides and prepare for training in harmony with each other in the following session.

A bit of resting between two warm up games
So what we learned on Friday was how to do iriminage. However, we started from uchikaitennage/uchikaitensankyo where the aim was, I think, to lead uke to move properly as finding the irimi point of iriminage makes sense only if uke attacks and moves forward properly. It was unusual but very useful. In the evening, we went through katemi waza in tachi waza (standing). One thing I noted was that this time we didn't do the nikkyu ura version that is relatively long but we did straight nikkyo cuts right after stepping behind the attacker. According to sensei, both versions are ok for the exam but if we can demonstrate more versions it would obviously show that we have the sufficient range of technical knowledge.

I'm looking forward to the exam on Day 6 when it will turn out if my technique is good enough for a 1st kyu. I will see how much I can sleep but sleepwise I feel much better (calmer) than last year when I went for my 2nd kyu (from which we are allowed to wear hakama).
